Sri Lanka with Ramayana

DAY 01

Airport to Negombo

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our English-speaking chauffeur guide. Begin your journey with a short transfer to Negombo, a coastal town known for its colonial charm and fishing heritage. After settling into your hotel, enjoy a relaxed evening with a visit to the Negombo Fish Market and a brief city tour to soak in the seaside ambiance.

Overnight at Negombo.

Negombo is often referred to as “Little Rome” due to its abundance of churches and colonial architecture. Located close to the airport, it’s a convenient starting point for your Sri Lankan adventure. Explore bustling markets, sample fresh seafood, or simply enjoy the golden sands of the Indian Ocean before beginning your Ramayana Trail.

DAY 02

Negombo to Chilaw to Dambulla

After breakfast, begin your spiritual journey with a visit to Munneswaram Temple in Chilaw, a revered site where Lord Rama prayed to Lord Shiva after the battle with King Ravana. Continue to Manavari Temple, the first lingam installed and worshipped by Lord Rama.

Later, head to Dambulla and relax for the evening in this historic city nestled among Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle.

Overnight stay in Dambulla.

Munneswaram and Manavari Temples are key sites in the Ramayana Trail, drawing thousands of pilgrims annually. These sacred shrines are known for their deep spiritual energy and historical significance in Rama’s journey through Lanka.

DAY 03

Dambulla to Trincomalee

After breakfast, drive towards Trincomalee, stopping en route to visit Koneswaram Temple, a classical-medieval Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located atop Swami Rock. The temple is closely linked to the Ramayana legend and is believed to be one of the places where Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva.

In the evening, relax at the tranquil Nilaveli Beach or explore the vibrant local culture.

Overnight stay in Trincomalee.

Trincomalee is home to one of the finest natural harbors in the world, renowned for its stunning coastal beauty and deep-rooted spiritual heritage. The sacred Koneswaram Temple, perched on Swami Rock, offers not only religious significance but also panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. The serene beaches and calm waters make it an ideal spot to relax and unwind, while the town’s legends—woven into the Ramayana—add a layer of mystical allure to every experience.

DAY 04

Trincomalee to Kandy

Begin the day with a scenic drive to Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka. En route, visit the Nalanda Gedige—a fusion Hindu-Buddhist temple considered a midpoint of Sri Lanka. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the country.

In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kandyan cultural show.

Overnight stay in Kandy.

Kandy is a spiritual and cultural capital surrounded by lush hills. Its sacred temples and serene lake make it a must-visit, and the city’s legacy is deeply tied to ancient Sinhalese kings and religious heritage.

Day 05

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, visit the Sita Amman Temple and Ashok Vatika in Nuwara Eliya, believed to be where Sita was held captive by Ravana. Explore Divurumpola Temple, the site where Sita underwent the ‘Agni Pariksha’ to prove her purity.

On the way, stop at a tea plantation and factory to see how world-famous Ceylon tea is produced.

Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya, often called “Little England,” is a cool and scenic hill station surrounded by rolling tea estates. The area is closely linked with the Ramayana through sites such as Sita Eliya, offering both natural beauty and mythological depth.

DAY 06

Nuwara Eliya to Ella to Kataragama

Start the day with a beautiful drive to Ella, visiting Ravana Falls and the legendary Ravana Caves, which are believed to be the hiding place where Sita was kept. Take in stunning views at Ella Gap, and if time permits, hike up Little Adam’s Peak.

Later, drive to Kataragama, a sacred city for Buddhists and Hindus alike, and visit the Kataragama Temple, another key site in the Ramayana Trail.

Overnight stay in Kataragama or Tissamaharama.

Kataragama is one of Sri Lanka’s holiest pilgrimage sites. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan (Skanda), who is believed to have helped Lord Rama in his battle against Ravana.

Day 07

Kataragama to Colombo via Ussangoda and Rumassala

After breakfast, travel towards Colombo. En route, visit Ussangoda, believed to be a place where Ravana’s Pushpaka Vimana landed. Next, stop at Rumassala in Galle, linked to the story of Hanuman dropping a part of the Himalayas while searching for medicinal herbs.

Upon arrival in Colombo, enjoy a short city tour or some leisure time for shopping.

Overnight stay in Colombo.

Colombo, the bustling capital city, offers a blend of colonial history and modern lifestyle. It’s a great place to end your spiritual and cultural journey through the island.

Day 08

Departure from Colombo

After breakfast, it’s time to bid farewell to the paradise island. You’ll be transferred to Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward journey, taking with you blessings, memories, and the powerful essence of the Ramayana Trail.
